How can you tell when a diamond is fake?

The best way to know whether the stone is test is diamond or not, you have to do a few tests. The first test should be to take the stone to a jewelry shop. This is because, only the experienced eye can judge properly and can say whether the stone is fake or not, there is a scratch test which you may perform yourself. But that has certain disadvantages. Diamond is the hardest of all stones and cannot be easily be scratched. But if the stone is question is glass it will be easily be scratched. But since the material is formed deep inside the earth, it has few cleavages and therefore may catch the scar if you do the test yourself. Another efficient test is the fog test.

If you breathe in front of the diamond, fog will accumulate at the other end. This happens because of the fact that diamond is a very good conductor of heat and electricity. Other materials do not essentially pass this test. If you put the stone in front of circles and straight lines drawn in front of you, then through diamond you shall not be able to see them properly. This is due to the high refractive index of diamond. Through other materials, especially glass, you can easily see the writings.
