How is a black diamond made?
Carbonado is also known as Black Diamond. It is actually a poly crystalline substance that is available on the earth, especially in the mines. People have a great liking for this natural diamond and sometimes the demand grows high. Carbonado is used in making jewelry and crystals.
Therefore, special techniques have been innovated for making these polycrystalline substances from smaller crystalloids. This is an artificial method and is called Crystallography. This word originates from the Greek word crystallon meaning cold drop or frozen drop. The word graphein means something to write.
In the old days, the making of the crystals depended mainly on studying the geometry of the crystals. This was a tough method and therefore research was made into this field. Nowadays, crystallography depends mainly on studying the process of diffraction, which is done through X-Rays. There are three types of diffraction. They are neutron diffraction, electron diffraction and X-Ray diffraction.
The mantle-derived inclusions are lacking in the artificial carbonadoes. Moreover, the value of the carbon isotopes is also very low. The radioactive inclusions which makes the natural carbonados brighter and the natural luminescence is also lacking in the artificial carbonadoes. Therefore, people prefer the former. Yet due to lesser availability, artificial carbonadoes are also used.
